Powervamp assist with new project

" The Oxford Universities Motorsport Foundation is absolutely delighted with the support we have received from Powervamp.

We are an independent student initiative, founded in 2005 at Oxford, and are presently without financial aid of any kind from the universities - or anywhere else. As such we are totally dependent on the support of farsighted companies such as Powervamp who enable us to continue to provide our unique 'hands on' practical facility and experience to students.

Our projects are based around historic competition cars, which are inspiringly beautiful but relatively simple to understand - and so appeal particularly to young engineers. Powervamp share the view of our growing army of supporters within the engineering industry, who are increasing alarmed at the gaping skills gap and the lack of practical knowledge demonstrated by graduates with first class paper qualifications. Through their involvement with motor racing Powervamp is also aware of how important its is to introduce and encourage intelligent capable young people to historic motorsport where - unfortunately - the age gap is growing as fast as its popularity.

OUMF's first project for 2005/6 was the recreation of an Alfa 1750 GTAm from a total wreck - achieved by the students in just 8 months - and displayed to wide acclaim at Race Retro and many other shows in 2006. When Kelvin Charles from Powervamp saw the 2006/7 OUMF project displayed as a 'work in progress' at Race Retro in 2007 - he was moved to help.

The Powervamp 30 he generously provided is absolutely ideal for our second project, an early Alfa 1750 GTV. The car is prepared to H.S.C.C. race specification, so the battery's compact, light weight design and high output - to reliably spin up the high compression engine under all conditions - are ideal. Also, being gel filled and totally sealed, we were able to install the Powervamp 30 on its side to help lower the centre of gravity without compromising safety in any way.

The Powervamp 30 has optimised our choices regarding battery positioning, and by using Diamond etched alloy sheet we feel we have produced a very simple, attractive and above all, functional solution.

We look forward to a long association with Powervamp and feel certain that they have made a significant contribution to the future success of both OUMF and its project car (which can be seen at www.oumf.org)
